Sexy Barbie

We have a cry for help for a totally awesome cause: sexiness! Heather writes:

Hi, Mo!

I’m a long-time reader of BFD, and I come to you with a plea for help. Or, at least, with a request for fellow readers of BFD. I’m a quasi-plus-sized girl who is looking to buy some lingerie, but I don’t know where to shop! I’m willing to shop online, but I’d like to find a place with a decent return policy. I’m also willing to shop at a real store, but I live in Ohio and I’m not too confident that I’ll find what I want in places like Dillards or JC Penney.

I say that I am quasi-plus-sized because I’m plus on the bottom (I wear about a size 18 pant) and an XL on top, but my boobs aren’t the OMGBOOBS! kind of boobs that generally would fill out a larger top. 36C or so, but to me, they seem smaller.

I’m looking specifically for a garter belt and stockings, but I’m also kind of interested in looking for some knock-your-socks-off, va-va-va-voom general sexy stuff.

If you’d throw this out to the awesome readership of BFD, I (and my boyfriend!) would be deeply indebted.

My instinct is to say Frederick’s of Hollywood, because I know they make bras in a whole range of sizes, mostly for porn stars, but whatever. Sure enough, a quick search shows that they have a whole plus-size lingerie section. (Can I be a sexy Santa in time for Christmas? God, I hope so.) This looks like it might be the type of thing you’re looking for (very Frank N. Furter). The Renaissance corset is hot. Or crotchless panties for the truly daring! It does cost $6.50 to return anything though.

So, BFDivas, I turn to you. Can you find anything for Heather that will work even better than my sexy Santa/crotchless panties combo? Feel free to give it a shot.

If you are looking for great sexy plus size lingerie check out AlwaysForMe.com. They have body hugging corsets, slinky chemises, soft and sexy cami sets and beautiful baby dolls are waiting for you. The site features great fit advice , customer reviews of the individual styles and a 30 day return policy.

i visited this store when i was in Florida and I fell in love. they have sizes XS through 4X and they have beautiful stuff! Also, the staff was uber helpful and nice! And you can order online or give them a call if there is something specific you are looking for… I highly recommend this store.

I’ve seen some cute things on the Lane Bryant site, and there’s also hips and curves

My first instinct would have been Fred’s too. Once upon a time, I was a VERY good customer of theirs, and being the same size then as I am now, I would definitely say they would have something in Heather’s size (I’m a size or so bigger than she is).

Lane Bryant, believe it or not! I work in a LB store, and we have a HUGE Cacique section that has quite a few really sexy pieces…and they’re really popular. If your local LB doesn’t have a Cacique store, ask the associates if they know of one that does. Hope this helps!

Long time reader, first time poster, but my sister swears by Hipsandcurves.com. I personally haven’t bought anything from them, but she has been happy with their stuff. They offer a wide range of sizes. So try them.

Torrid has a couple of cute things, more online than they do in the stores.

Just MY Size has a decent selection of thigh highs (that go up to 7X!!) http://www.jms.com/category/8070000000.html

Oh my gosh…. I had no idea about Fredricks! That satin halter chemise comes in a billion colors and is only $20! Yay!

Not sexy, but cute for everyday wear… Old Navy has cute little cotton chemises…http://www.oldnavy.com/browse/product.do?cid=36963&pid=526691&scid=526691022

Any my very favorite site ever…
It’s got a HUGE selection but some of it can go to the trashy side (I kinda like that!)

Torrid has some stuff sometimes. I know my husband orders corsets from there. Not for him, for me ;-D

I was going to say Hips and Curves, too — with the caveat that that will only work for the bottom half, because their band sizes start at 38.

Bare Necessities also has a wide range of sizes and merch, and I’ve been really happy with everything I’ve ordered from them.

  11. Kellie, on December 5th, 2007 at 1:42 pm Said:

A note on the Renaissance corset: I got one and returned it almost immediately. The boning folded at my waist within minutes, promising miserable poking and bruising later on. I’m a pretty average size 14, so I can’t imagine that it would work well at all for someone who needs more cinch at the top than on the bottom.

  12. Eden, on December 5th, 2007 at 3:03 pm Said:

I ordered something from Hips & Curves once. It wasn’t coming and wasn’t coming so finally I wrote to them and said, “Here’s my order number. Where’s my stuff?” Days later they wrote back and said, “Oh we were out of stock so we canceled it.” No one told me and I said as much. They were kind of “meh” about it. So yes, they have lovely things in plus sizes but their customer service was pretty much non-existent in my experience.

I’ve had good success from Amazon actually. Just make sure there’s a size chart. Otherwise all of my lingerie comes from the Cacique section at Lane Bryant, from sexy corsets & garter belts to comfy pjs and robes.

Sorry to hear about your experience Eden, but I’ve recently ordered twice from Hips n Curves (Sept and Nov) and had a good experience. I have not had to return any of their items but on my first order one of the pieces was on backorder. They emailed me about it and asked if I’d like to wait or cancel the order. I was impressed with that so I came back again. Perhaps they’re wising up in the customer service area.

Anyhow, they’ve got some awesome stuff!

    Hey ladies (and gents?)

I’m sitting here eating lunch and reading blogs. I told our customer service manager about your post and asked what we could do. She was super appreciative of the feedback and would like to remedy the situation in hopes that you’ll give us another chance.

We’re growing so fast these days and hiring new customer service people all the time. We have great training programs but every so often there is a problem and we appreciate your feedback so we can fix it. I know its cliché, but customers are our top priority and I really mean that.

Eden, I would love to hear more about the experience you had. Please email me at marcy@hipsandcurves.com if you have time.

Heather – we have free shipping right now! If you email me I’ll send you the code :)

To everyone else, thanks for recommending us!

Miss Girl can just come to NYC and make a weekend of it (I’m a Midwesterner by birth, but if you’re gonna shop, shop) and come to Daffy’s Daffy’s Daffys.

    I LOVE Daffy’s. I bought my first 75% discounted
100% cashmere sweaters at Daffy’s when I first came here.

More OT, I just bought 14 (because I really hate to shop and if it’s a discount store with good quality, I might as well buy in bulk) 36C Calvin Klein bras at Daffy’s for a HUGE AMOUNT LESS than you might think a CK bra would cost.

(Normally I don’t do CK on principle because he seems like such a body fascist, but it’s so hard for me to find top-side lingerie that fits that I just stick my tongue out at the showroom when I go by.)

Yes, OK, you have to come on a day with patience if you’re doing clothes as well as lingerie (and I would not recommend weekends; it’s like Barney’s semi-annual discount warehouse sale plus, like, a million brutality points). But IMHO, it’s worth it for that kind of discount on stuff like cashmere, silk (pants, blouses), designer Italian knit, and, of course, lingerie.

I have a great love for Cacique lingerie at Lane Bryant, and most of my everyday stuff comes from them.

A sexier brand to look for is Lunaire, which is sold online through figleaves.com and macys.com — the thing I like about them is that as an 18 on the bottom, I can get the panties that match the bra. With a lot of the other sexier brands (Felina, for example) the panty size tops out at a 14 or so.

And, believe it or not, the lingerie at Lands End is lovely! Great range of plus and straight size panties, as well as full-figure and straight bras, though if you’re a 36C you may not need full figure.

And here’s my plug for all of you reading this blog to go to a good department store and get properly fitted for a bra. Nothing makes more of a difference than a bra that really fits you. Let the fitter guide you — she’ll have seen every size and shape boobs out there — and will know what size and style makes your girls look their best.

Once you know what size you should really be wearing, it makes online shopping MUCH easier.

Thanks, everyone! I’m going to have a great time surfing and spending way too much homey! And who knows, maybe I’ll also send the links to the boy and see what he picks out!

Figleaves (www.figleaves.com) is also an excellent online resource for lingerie. They offer items from different manufacturers in a range of sizes — you can narrow down your search by size to find out what is available. The site often offers really great discounts and right now, shipping is free for orders placed through December 18th.

http://www.3wishes.com has plus size stuff and a lot of cute things. I’ve ordered from them before and have never had a problem. They ship stuff very quickly and no matter how much you order, there is always free shipping. That to me is a huge plus. I will gladly shop at a store and pay a bit extra if I don’t have to pay for shipping. Why more stores don’t offer free shipping is something I don’t understand.

I do a lot of Roamans.com. They also have a section of hideously horrid hats that are fun to laugh at… I’m one of those super-sized fat chicks. For some reason, most of what I find in my size (32), is like, creepy fetish stuff or crotchless… I’ll try some of the sites y’all have suggested!
