I’d never heard of The Book Group, which is apparently a British show about, well, a book group. The second episode features a nice moment with an actress who presumably would be considered OMG FAT by the standards of American television, but is allowed to be sexy in Britain!
You can see her at [...]

Are you feeling down, low, sad, lonely, lacking in happiness and needing a tiny little boost to get you through that last patch of Friday and boost you into the weekend? Are you feeling cynical, hateful, sure that the world is bigoted and there are no positive, body-friendly messages left on earth and that everyone [...]

I just found out there is a second season of Project Runway Australia, so of course, I had to look it up on YouTube. Watching the opening credits I spotted a fat chick, who reminded me of the awesome Jessica Biffi on Project Runway Canada. Then I started watching the episode, and I found [...]

According a recent study, overweight women have a decrease in self-esteem when looking at models, regardless of the size of the models, whereas underweight women experience a boost in self-esteem, again regardless of the size of the models (thanks La Wade for the link).
We get a LOT of e-mail from PR folks about random stuff [...]

So are you guys watching Glee? The awesome, Jane-Lynch-starring, musical-theater-celebrating, football-team-singing-Single-Ladies-scene-having, Glee? Which is on tonight?
If so, then you have noticed Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes, and is a plus-sized chick. Check out this post about her from All My Jiggly Bits.
Though in many ways the characters fall into the same old categories of [...]

I was glad to see this post from Fatties United bringing up the bit Jon Stewart did on The Daily Show last night. My husband and I watch TDS and Colbert on a daily basis; like so many people, it’s where I get most of my news.
When I saw this sketch, I wavered between, “come [...]

At least that’s the gossip on E! online. In case you hadn’t heard, two women (Wilson and Michaela Watkins) were fired from the show as two women were hired. (Still no new black comics, though; I love how a show that prides itself on its political satire has exactly 0 black people in its [...]

Show History has a fascinating compilation of names and pictures and brief biographies of fat people who worked as attractions in carnival sideshows. (They were also known as “freaks.”)
A little background:
Professional Fat Folk of an earlier age lived to astound a public for whom not having enough to eat [...]

This week is all videos and Whedonites and internet drama, apparently! Thanks to a spammer (apparently a very effective spammer) following fat chicks or girls who say they’re fat on Twitter, I found this video, called “Fat Girls,” at Funny or Die.
Is it a “BBW tribute” as they claim? Or is the “BBW” the [...]

I saw this video on Wil Wheaton’s site, and even though I wasn’t familiar with The Guild, (other than seeing Felicia Day mention it on Twitter) I watched it.
The song is incredibly catchy and the video is cute, and I also noticed that one of the actors in it is a fat chick. [...]

Nonk sent in a post from Alas, A Blog about Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse—the character of Mellie, in particular. Mellie is played by Miracle Laurie, who is like, a size four, instead of the size zero of co-stars like Eliza Dushku, Amy Acker, and the absolutely fantastic Dichen Lachman. Miracle Laurie is quoted in [...]

I found out on Twitter that Kimberley Locke from American Idol is hosting a reality show about fat people joining a band:
“Making the Curve” — in which talented, plus-size women “prove that they have what it takes to form a hit pop musical group.”
Because… everyone in a band… needs to have… the same body type? [...]

So this is a teen (tween?) band called Chair, with a song called “I’m Fat And Nobody Likes Me.” Finkbuilt describes it as “Awesome teen angst comedy mischief pop by Chair. Kind of NSFW, sophomoric and juvenile.” On YouTube, they are being compared to everyone from Jack Black to Moldy Peaches. Take a [...]

As part of their show, they frequently issue challenges to agencies–create This Kind of advertisement. Sell this seemingly impossible-to-sell idea. Hooray, Star Jones news! It’s been almost a year since we even mentioned her. But Star was on Oprah on Wednesday, facing the music about her gastric bypass and the fact that she hid it from the general public–whether on purpose or just by omission.
In the clip I saw on Jezebel, Star apologizes to her [...]

More Hollywood news! It’s Hollywood Monday! There’s a reality show in development at Fox that will basically be a fat version of The Bachelor. It’s called More to Love.
For six years it’s been skinny-minis and good-looking bachelors, and that’s not what the dating world looks like,” Fox president of alternative Mike Darnell said. “Why [...]

Now that Big Love is off the air, those of you lucky people with HBO will need something else to watch to pass the time. Well, as Entertainment Weekly reminded me, this week is the premiere of the TV series version of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series.

Ricky Gervais—creator of my favorite television show of all time and another show that makes me enjoy, of all people, Chris Martin from Coldplay—must you keep making me sad?
