The Airbrushipation Of Mimi
At this point we’re used to magazines airbrushing or misrepresenting cover photos with ironically juxtaposed headlines. But that doesn’t mean we should stop pointing it out! This week’s victim is Mariah Carey, on the cover of Elle next to the headline, “Mariah! Her New Body.” Says Gawker:
“Her New Body,” exclaims the Elle cover line. It certainly is! It’s not even hers. Sure, she slimmed down—but not that much… Also: her head has been re-attached to her body crookedly, making her resemble a Bobblehead. Come on, Elle: it’s like you’re not even trying.
As Gawker points out, you have to wonder why magazines still try this, when it’s now become a matter of course for blogs to point it out and mock it. I’m glad, especially because teenage girls and young women can see with their own two eyes that the images they’re being fed on magazine covers aren’t just unrealistic, but impossible.

It looks like she’s trying to pop her head off her shoulders! Hilarious!
Oh no! That’s too funny–it looks as if she’s using her hands to remove her head from her shoulders. Hey–that’s one way to slim down….
Ha!! Totally!!
On Good Morning America, they were making a big deal about MC’s “new body” and I really can’t figure out how she looks better or even that different. I wasn’t aware that she had a weight problem. They made it seem like some big comeback or something. Lame.
Good god, even I’m better with Photoshop that that.
I’m not too surprised, after I found out that all magazine pictures are retouched. But her head position is pretty funny.
OMG, it looks like she’s decapitated in the magazine photo!
Mariah’s “new” body. I’ve noticed that every couple of years or so, Mimi gets a tiny bit chunkier- to the point where she’s curvy. She then proceeds to diet/exercise it off in some way until she’s on the skinnier side. The tabloids then go into orgasmic excitement about her “new” body and how great it it. I’d say she cycles losing or gaining only about 15 or 20 pounds, max.
In the magazine picture, not only is the head put back on funny, it’s out of proportion slightly to the rest of the body, which adds to the whole bobble head look.
The elle magazine cover has definitely been “photoshopped” but I must point out that the picture on the right was taken over 2 years ago (in August 2006. Source: http://www.people.com/people/gallery/0,,1288342_2,00.html ) and she was indeed bigger then…
As seen on Oprah and just about every tabloid magazine this year, she really is much smaller (http://www.mahoganycity.com/mariah-carey-overload-pics-from-good-morning-america-empire-st-building-tennessee-premiere).
No word on how long she will be able to maintain the weight loss as she’s always been a curvy woman.
Indeed, thanks for pointing it out. Her head does look dangerously close to falling off– never a good message for the kids.
My ‘other’ job is as a freelance photoshopest. I hate to see people letting the team down by producing something that is seen through this quickly. The ultimate complement to an airbrusher is when people can’t tell if a change has been made, the ultimate insult… well.
On the left, is that the before picture, and if so can I have Mariah’s old body? Damn, I wish I was that hot! The media can suck one of my big ol buttcheeks for raving about weight loss.
yah that pic on the left is 2 yrs old and the pic on the right is of this year.
indeed, mariah carey is slimer now than during the past few years, but they DO airbrush her to death. she aint that skinny! plus, she does the same poses in bikinis these past few months.
she is just lame. she’s had some lipo on her stomach, it seems. it’s flat in a weird way.
Is there some sort of unwritten rule that Mariah Carey cannot appear in front of a camera unless she’s dressed as a sexbot?
And does she always have to pet that lock of hair?
Really, I’d pay more attention if she’d just put on a baggy turtleneck and baggy jeans and just SING.
Hey you know what I just thought about the picture on the right?

ROFLOL!
Cindy, Mariah said on Regis & Kelly a few years back that she doesn’t like to wear a lot of clothes, in response to criticism about her always being dressed so skimpily. To her, looking half-naked is comfortable. But boy does it ever get old seeing her T&A on display all the time. Although her voice annoys me, she is vocally talented and doesn’t have to resort to looking like a sexpot to get noticed.
You gotta wonder if these magazines ever stop and go “Whoa, these gals sure don’t look right on our covers!” Because if it’s so obvious that we know it’s not natural, what do they see?
LOL its to funny. It totally looks like a bobble head !!

Maria Carey is a fairly pretty woman however she tends to fluctuate between fat and sexy. It’s really shocking to see how hollywood trainers can get a person in shape extremely fast.
