Lane Bryant clearance sale alert!
BFDivas, I had to interject this to tell you about an amazing score I just made at over at Lanebryant.com. It seems that these and these tops are on clearance for $4.19. I ended up getting 10 shirts that, with the discount code, ended up costing less than $40 after shipping and tax.
Here’s the thing: these shirts are perfect basic building blocks for about a billion DIY projects or custom jobs. For instance, Circular Accessories doesn’t carry plus size items in her store but I made an arrangement with her for some custom work. I ordered these shirts from LB and had them sent directly to the artist, and then she sent them to me with her own designs. It took about two weeks and I ended up having the coolest t-shirts for under $25 each, total with shipping. I think I paid $12 for the basic shirt at the time, so it would be even cheaper now.
They also have a few other cheap-o basics that are begging for rehab. If you use the the BFD 20% discount code of 00203838, they are so cheap that you can feel inspired to go all Project Runway and start experimenting.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming

Oh my god, that’s such a great, great idea! So many times I find myself drawn to a tee design on Etsy or eltsewhere, only to turn away when I discover that they use the (strange, clingy, nipple-showing) American Apparel line as the canvas for their designs. But now that you’ve opened my eyes, I’m so excited to see if my favorite designers are willing/able to take my favorite well-fitting (I’ve actually been having some good tee luck at Dress Barn, of all places) tops to a new, customized level, yay!
Ooh! I love the designs at Circular Accessories, but, as you say, she doesn’t carry plus sizes. This is a great idea!
Very cool and crafty idea. This is just a comment out of nowhere to say that once I ordered a onesie from Circular Accessories to give as a baby gift and it turned out that the artist and I went to elementary school together — I had no idea what the identity of the artist was before that — and I just drove over to her house to pick it up rather than doing it through the mail. I love her stuff! It is a small, artsy, wonderful world.
Maybe someone should address the question of why that designer doesn’t carry plus sizes?
You know, I asked her that and the answer had to do with the fact that American Apparel has a very fine jersey that works best with the intricacies of her designs, and they don’t carry plus sizes. So she’s definitely not trying to exclude anyone (and can take custom work if she’s not busy) but since she runs a micro-business, I imagine she’s kind of stuck buying through a single textile/apparel distributor to get the bulk deal. Maybe if she gets enough requests for custom work, she’ll look into carrying sizes beyond S-M-L?
Wow…. the deal lover in me got all psyched by this post :)
Well, if it’s American Apparel, she can carry up to XXL in women’s, so if she only goes S-M-L and uses AA as her alibi, there’s something else going on.
Seriously, I have an American Apparel XXL t-shirt.
Thanks for writing this.
