Big Fat Media Sweep
Check out MoPie’s national television debut on the Mike and Juliet Show! She makes the case for acceptance and less judgment without making grand generalizations (*cough*). Rachel from F-Word also nails the point home, plus, bonus, we get to watch their cute husbands too! Look at the fat girls who are married! That never happens!
Thanks to Petulantrumble for putting this out on Youtube!
I won’t speak for all fat girls everywhere, but I am definitely proud to have Mo speak for the cause! Yay!

You were full of awesomeness!!!!! Yaay!!!! To celebrate I’m going to have baby flavored donuts!!!
You did such a great job! I’m so proud of you!
Mo, you were fantastic! Engaging, clever, articulate, and you just seemed downright likable, too!
You guys were so totally on point, and MeMe Roth was so a joy-deficient creep full of sputtering, pointless rage. And I know she’s always that way, but you made her come off as extra huffy and ineffectual. AWESOME!
I’m eating a big bowl of white food in your honor!!!!!
You guys did fabulous. I’m envious of how articulate yo both were – I would have been sputtering a few times.
Great job, Mo! And Ian, too!
You guys did really well! Also, Mo, your hair is really cute :)
You both were amazing! You can influence my future children as much as you like. You’re my heroes. (Also, you’re both just stunning!)
(Meme was Meme, and the doctor just seemed kinda useless, as were her health tips at the end.)
You guys both rocked! Great job!
Excellent representation of the non-insane, Mo! And great waving from Ian!
I live in such a bubble sometimes that I forget how awful the anti-fat stuff is. Your confidence and calm were awesome and fabulous, and your hair did look really great. I like that blue on you, too.
I saw the show this morning, you guys were great!
Fabulous! I loved that you two were able to get your main points across in such a short time, AND managed to not bitchslap Meme Roth. YOu guys are rock stars!
You were amazing to watch! So articulate and brilliant and beautiful!
Saw the show and thought you made some great points. The important thing to remember is you have to find out what is healthy for your body frame and go with it. Everyone is not to
Mo, you were the coolest! Thanks so much for representing the more tongue-tied and camera-shy among us.
I love how you just stomped on that “fat people suck” lady and took over with valid, iintelligent points. I wish the first video was still up to watch!
Well done! Bravo, Mo!
GREAT job! Thanks for saying ALL of it.
so awesome, congrats! I would’ve been tempted to punch that woman in the face, or the guy when he said, “let’s find out what these women’s husbands think of them.”
Ummmm, hello, I’m sure their husbands think they are fab and beautiful, that’s why they’re married you dumbass!
You two were great! I know that on talk shows they always feel like they have to a doctor on to cover themselves, but I agree, she was useless. I wish you had your own show.
My gosh, what beautiful women Mo and Rachel are, absolutely stunning! You guys did such an awesome job, I hope to see you on TV again soon!
Fab-u-lous!
You guys did an awesome job at getting the message out. You were articulate and beautiful.
And, I was horrified by the whole thing. I am so glad that Rachel circumvented the whole “what’s your exercise routine & diet” question because that one just made me see red. I’m once again infuriated that we have to justify our existence and our wanting to be respected for who we are.
Outstanding job, ya’ll! Way to represent.
Nice outfits. ;-)
Yay! Rachel! Rah! Mo!
Yay! Rah! Rachel! Mo!
Gooo, team!!!
You guys were so awesome! And it’s great to put a moving image with your moving words. :)
You guys rocked – that Rachel is a pistol, man. And Mo, way to go with the re-interpretation of the “chubby-kids” question! (Because there are so many kids out there who are going to embrace a Cheetos-based lifestyle because of the gateway drug of fat acceptance. God, MeMe Roth is a loon. Maybe there’s something in her and Coulter’s hair products that make them crazy?)
Way to rock the message! You are made of sunshine and awesome, and you were the one bright spot in my day today.
You know, once I started calling her the “Mome Rath”, I figured I’d go back and re-read “Through the Looking Glass”. And I found Humpty Dumpty’s definition of the Mome Raths:
‘Well, a “RATH” is a sort of green pig: but “MOME” I’m not certain about. I think it’s short for “from home”–meaning that they’d lost their way, you know.’
‘And what does “OUTGRABE” mean?’
‘Well, “OUTGRABING” is something between bellowing and whistling, with a kind of sneeze in the middle…
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! I chortled in my joy.
/still can’t believe that “it’s okay to not hate yourself” is radical thought.
You gals are gorgeous, and I don’t know why so many would consider you obese, because when I see you, I see healthy.
Meme DOES look like Ann Coulter! Could they be sisters? Maybe that’s why she’s such a psycho.
Wow, they actually gave you guys time to talk! I was worried they were going to give you 30 seconds and then shove you off the stage. Good job!
Oh man, you guys did so great! Ugh, that Meme Roth was a complete horror show–you ladies made her look like a fool. And you totally cut through all the hosts’ ridiculousness with intelligent, articulate points. Plus, you both looked lovely. Way to go!
It seems like there were two extremes opinions … it’s too bad we couldn’t meet more in the middle.
You were amazing and inspirational! MeMe only succeeded in looking like an idiot arguing with clever, articulate women who are living proof of Health (and Happiness) at Every Size. Bravo!
Yay!!! You guys were so awesome. Way to rock it.
I did find it a little irritating about how they asked for both your stats though. I mean, wtf? For a short interview, you guys did such a beautiful job with it. Hopefully it will get people reading and exploring some more.
Mo, your comments were awesome. You came across as really at ease, not at all nervous, and you drove your points home. What a role model.
You came across as so, uh, real. Like a real, live, human being. Which really helps the point about being treated as such.
The two ladies to your right came across as very plastic and not people I would want to be friends with. Whereas you and Rachel seemed like women I would want to hang out with.
Congrats, you guys did great. I discovered that if I simply muted MeMemememememe I was able to watch the sow without throwing the remote at the screen. You guys ROCKED!!!!
Tho I wanted to bitch slap Mike and their “doctor”.
Do people not realize that BMI is an aged and inaccurate portrayal of your “fatness”?
So proud of you that I have tears in my eyes! Thank you for being our voice of reason.
We just got into town. I have to say, MO IS AWESOME. I was SO SO glad to have her on the show with me. And both she and her husband are way cool. Thanks for all the support everyone. We’ll fill everyone in on the gory details soon.
Nice job on the show! I have just started to get into FA/HAES after years of thinking I just needed to have self-control, etc. (interesting that my lowest weight was when I was bulimic) and I am so happy to see FA getting coverage, even when it is countered by ‘the medical viewpoint’ (as if that is the opposite to FA like democrat is to republican).
Thank you guys so much for all your support; we just got home and are simultaneously wired and exhausted. I have to say that Dr. Ashton was fabulous, though. We spent a lot of time talking with her both before and after we were on the air, and she was really great. I have no idea how she came across on TV, but I really loved her as a person.
Anyway—thanks for all the nice comments! When I have had some sleep, I’ll do better at responding to them.
I heard you all really gave Me!Me!Me! the analytical beat-down in the green room after.
Inquiring minds want to know!!
GREEN ROOM GREEN ROOM GREEN ROOM
GREEN ROOM GREEN ROOM GREEN ROOM …
you guys were so classy, articulate and dignified amongst the clowns. WELL BLOODY DONE! :) :) :)
Mo, I love you. And I don’t know how you didn’t choke that man. Eric feels the same — and adds, “If you want to be healthy? Don’t watch the news. Your life will be better for it.” And he loves you too.
Hooray! You guys were awesome!
I wish they had asked the skinny blonde chicks how tall they were, and how much they weighed. Not to prove any point, but I’m just genuinely curious where on the bell curves typical television and movie personalities fall in terms of weight, height, and BMI.
I thought you and Rachel really represented, as they used to say, I thought the other two sounded far less credible and seemed more wrong-footed.
I also have to smile when people say that we should have a middle ground between the two ‘extremes’, it reminds me of an old Spanish saying, if you stay in the middle of the road, you are liable to get run over!
The truth is not always in the ‘middle’.
Well done, Monique. I was really impressed by both of you.
I’m not sure why people are slamming the doctor, though. I didn’t think she sided with Roth. In fact, what she was saying seemed more in line with what Mo & Rachel were talking about.
Finally watched the tape, and just wanted to say – well done!! Sucks that they tried to play “Justify Your Fat,” but you handled it well. Yay!!
Mo, you were awesome on the show! Both you and Rachel are beautiful and articulate! Way to represent FA!
Wow, great job and holding up against those chicks.
Gotta go eat a pound of whole wheat pasta and sleep 7 hours now :)
