Diet Coke And I'm On My Knees
Mika’s video for the fantastic “Big Girl You Are Beautiful” came out this week, and oh my, Mika is one truly beautiful boy.
But this brings something up that’s been making me curious. Mika is being coy about his sexual orientation, which is totally within his right, but hmmm… something there makes me wonder if he’s not family. Probably because he’s just so pretty and fabulous. And if he does drive stick, this totally supports my theory that gay bois love them some fat girls. Am I way off base?

Hey, can’t find an email link. Here’s an article about weight in the presidential field:

That video is so much fun! I love the block-party feel at the end, where it looks like innocent bystanders get in on the Big Beautiful Girl dancing action.
Dude! I want me one of those fancy blue corset things.
I’ve never heard of this guy before, but I think it’s lovely that he did this.
This video certainly has been making the rounds lately! I’ve had it stuck in my head all day; I went clothes shopping and was feeling kind of bummed at the lack of selection, and how crappy the stuff that did fit looked on me, so I started singing the song to myself. Definitely a mood lifter :)
Thanks. This made my whole day.
oh yeah, i love mika. he’s great. and yes, i do think he’s in the family, and from my experience, many gay men do love them some big women. from the gay men in my life, i think it’s because we find a camaraderie in being on the outside of certain social “norms” and the targets of lots of social stigma. so we’re in solidarity. plus, we’re all just fabulous. :)
I saw the video. As someone who likes pretty boys a.k.a Bishounen. I have to say that Mika is cute, but he’s not quite pretty. If he wore more makeup, or maybe some black eyeliner. Then I’d say he was a pretty boy.
it’s a good song. But let’s get real here. would a fat woman REALLY want the dj to play this song when she’s on the dance floor, unless it’s a BBW convention? I would imagine she’d make a beeline for the door.
I mean, come on. It’s campy and tongue-in-cheek. It’s not some genuine celebration here.
I love this song and will be shaking my big beautiful ass if the DJ plays it next time I go to the club.
“I love this song and will be shaking my big beautiful ass if the DJ plays it next time I go to the club.”
That’s cool. I think, though, that there’s tons of 17 year old girls who will be traumatized by the song.
That’s not to say it’s not a good song tho. Just that it’s not really about fat pride.
I mean, “big balloon”? The sound of someone drinking a milkshake through a straw at the beginning?
in other news, new Beth Ditto pics. God, she looks FIERCE. She really is amazing in this pics. Charisma for miles.
This made me think of Queen and “Fat Bottomed Girls.”
There is a youtube video that shows him talking about this song. He was watching a documentary on fat people in the US, and it was really depressing until they started talking about a club called the Butterfly Lounge (for fat girls). He also said that his mom and aunt are big, so he was inspired to write this song.
I was just watching that interview! I’ve gotten a little obsessed!
It’s here– the relevant bit starts around 3:25.
He also says he got teased as a kid for being big.
This makes me like the song more- he actually used the phrase “size acceptance” about Butterfly lounge. In response to well, the song is campy and silly rather than a serious Fat Acceptance Anthem, but it’s not a joke.
I love this song. I can’t stop listening to it.
Jesus this song is the most awesomest!
