Our Celebrity Bodies, Our Celebrity Selves
An interesting article from MSN’s Gossip page, about some celeb’s attitudes towards their bodies, dieting, and the industry they’re in, which asks them to lose ten pounds every time they turn around.
[This is mo pie, with a slight addendum: Every Woman Has an Eating Disorder discussed the Gwen Stefani quote in this article, and pointed out: “She wants to be able to wear her line? Can’t she, um, make some of the clothing a little bigger? We’re always looking to designers to size up, in order to reflect the average woman–wouldn’t this be a perfect opportunity to start?” Gwen admitted that vanity played a part in it too, and maybe she only wants to design skimy stuff, but… yeah.]

I love J-Lo’s attitude. Women are supposed to be curvy. Not saying that those of us are overweight can write it off as being “more feminine”, but to think that people like Mandy Moore are being told that they are too fat and need to lose weight is just insane to me. is there ANYONE who thinks Nicole Ritchie or Lindsey Lohan look better when you can see every rib?
I like the part about Kiera Knightley having ugly feet and having to have a foot double. I guess she’ll never star in a Quentin Tarantino film.
Enough of them eat poorly, that the news is not great, especially bearing in mind the influence they have on young girls. But all is not lost, at least Alicia Silverstone is a vegan.
Cheers!
I used to really love Gwen–until she began marketing herself as the great white goddess, Asian division. A lot of Asian and Asian-American activists are having a bit of a problem with her Harajuku hijinks…
She really is a powerful and talented woman, so I hate to see her fall prey to that oh-so-typical mindset of skinnier= what? better/more valuable.
This is a touch OT, but I think it’s worth noting that it’s ONLY THE WOMEN who get that request every time they turn around.
The men only get that once in a while.
It’s like “The Agency” (I can’t believe I’m about to quote that show) when the girl model from Alabama got constantly harangued with “you’re fat, you’re fat, you need to lose weight, no sugar, OMG you’re going to ruin your future if you don’t stop eating so much” but Oliver the male model only got “you need to go to the gym and bulk up” ONCE. Maybe twice.
I’m not even going to get into the disparity of the direction of the changes dictated, but I think it’s pretty important to (one) notice that it’s happening, (two) notice who’s being singled out for the more unrelenting assault and (three) give a think or two to what forces are driving those crazy standards.
I am unable to stand Lindsey Lohan. She is always in trouble and never quits partying. The girl needs loads of assistance. She was a really good actor it is sad.
