Rats Love Oreos
Unfortunately, Jen Wade is on vacation, so we are going to have to think about this science for ourselves. But I enjoy that this research involves feeding rats Oreo cookies.
“Boggiano assigned rats as ‘binge prone’ or ‘binge resistant’ based on the amount of palatable food, (Oreo® cookies), they consistently ate when given a choice between the cookies and regular chow…To the psychologists’ surprise, the amount of junk food the rats ate, whether binge prone or binge resistant, was not predictive of whether the rats became obese. In fact, obesity and obesity resistance was equally represented in both the binge prone and binge resistant groups. The finding is consistent with humans in that not everyone who frequently craves or eats junk food is obese..”
The rats correspond to bulimic patients and patients with binge eating disorder, some of whom do and some of whom do not gain weight. Interesting.

Oh, God! I just went to grab a cup of applesauce, right past two bags of double-stuff Oreos! The good thing is, I got past them!!!
I love that this confirms what so few people want to admit — some thin people have crappy eating habits as well. Which means fat people are not necessarily fat because they are gluttons. Rock on. This makes me want to celebrate with an Oreo or two.
Mo, you’re doing that logical thinking and inductive reasoning thing again. Just cut it out.
