Review: Igigi Cosenza Dress
Those of us who attended Weetacon this year were asked if we’d like to snag ourselves some Igigi outfits and then do little writeups of them. Of course, remembering how well that worked out for us last time, I was on board! I chose the Cosenza dress, with its asymmetrical neckline and its sparkly business.
(As an aside, I have to say that as I was packing for Weetacon, I discovered that our house has mildew and that most if not all of my dresses need to be drycleaned before I can wear them again. So I was grateful to know that at least I had something to wear to the party!)
My first reaction when I put on the dress is that it’s pretty and flattering… and kind of a fat-girl dress. Way more sophisticated than sequins and appliques, but still the details that are meant to draw the eye away from Places of Fat and say WOO! LOOK OVER HERE AT THE SPARKLY BUSINESS! I suspect that my real criticism is that it’s not low cut enough, because normally I prefer WOO! LOOK OVER HERE AT MY BOOBS! But I put on the dress and looked hot and had a great time.
(I do have to say I was jealous of Ladyloo’s blue dress, which looks gorgeous with her eyes, and that Trance Jen made the right call with the Imperia dress, which looks amazing on her.)
I stole my friend Melinda’s camera and took pictures of myself on the night, but they’re all close ups of me kissing or hugging or smothering or kissing various people (some of whom are also wearing Igigi clothes), or just like HERE IS MY EYE or JENFUUUU or WENDY MCCLURE IS PRETTY. But I also danced and drank in the dress, and it was all magical.
But I didn’t get a picture of the dress. So for this post you’re stuck with this picture that I just took with total out-of-the-shower hair, after-a-facial face, and a camera self-timer. Which means it’s also blurry. Yay?
If you’re interested in picking up anything from Igigi, which sells clothes in sizes 12-32, there is a 20% discount code that will work until the end of March: WEETACON. Their clothes are well designed and well made and not cheap, so 20% is a good deal!
I might actually cave and buy the Forget Me Knot dress in blue.

Hey Mo, is there anywhere in the bay area I can go to try on Igigi dresses? I may need something for a hot night out, but I’m too short to trust sizing.
Hi Elise,
You can come and shop at IGIGI headquarters in San Francisco by appointment. Please call customer service at 1.888.418.7428 to make an appointment. Happy shopping! Ozlem
Elise, you should totally do it. In fact, you and me and Sony should make an afternoon of it!
I love the Igigi dresses but can’t afford spending that much money on one item right now, and I also have currently no place to wear something that gorgeous!
YES YES YES YES YES.
Ahem.
I think I feel the need to “go see my dentist”.
And I might need to see the dentist at Nordstrom as well. Just saying.
I also need to see that dentist. Ow, my tooth!
(I have spring break the first week of April… Elise, how soon is your event?)
Holy crap – why have I never seen these dresses? I am in love with at least 3 of them. Bella Gown, Venice Dress, and Savona Lace. I need them NOW.
I have already been to the real dentist this year though. I am going to start saving my quarters and planning an event for such a dress.
Totally weird since I am not a girly girl and I love all three of these styles! Would it be strange to wear it to my casual office?
I could go about the day singing “I Feel Pretty”. They might send me to the locked psych ward that we have onsite.
Igigi has some great designs, and the Cosenza dress looks beautiful on you.
That dress is amazing on you!
I have made a rule to never again buy dresses off the internet because of my height, it’s hard to tell how long the dress will be on me but also because my hip to bust ratio is at least a size difference so I always end up with way too much material over my bust so that I can squeeze the dress over the butt.
But the Marcela Wrap Jacket is MINE. And it’s on sale. Whoo.
ooh poo, I should look at sizes available before making declarations that something will be mine. Good news for anyone that is a 14 or 16 this jacket is gorgeous! http://www.igigi.com/plus-size-sale/marcela-wrap-jacket.html
Hey, wait until April 12th when I’m there and we can all go down together!!!!
*sigh* I wish Igigi and other companies like them would show their dresses on women with a variety of shapes. I’m sorry, but I do not believe that the dresses that return in a search for “oval” will actually look good on my body when they’re pictured on a woman with big breasts and no belly. I want to see a woman with “double-belly syndrome” rocking a dress so I know that I have a chance at rocking it, too.
It would be even better if the model could be 5’6″ and a size 30 or 32, but that’s just wishful thinking, I suppose. I’d be happy to sign on as Igigi’s next model. My body is a challenging shape, so if their clothes can look good on me, they should look good on everyone else, right?
Yah dresses! But I really just commented to say that you’re really adorable and I love the goose behind you:)
Voted Photoshop on the Igigi Consenza dress web page. Look at where the model’s left hand sits, minimizing her size at the bend of her waist. Now compare that to the extremely concave curve on her right side near the sparkly business. Asymmetrical neckline is one thing, but that looks like a seriously asymmetrical waist.
I think I could actually do April 12 if that works for others. I’d like a dress for our cruise in June, so I’ve got plenty of time.
Unfortunately, there are very few fat women’s clothing sites that use actual fat women. Big on Batik does, Love Your Peaches, does as well. Plus Woman, did, I don’t go there often, the clothes are too conservative for me.
I can’t do Igigi, either. I’m way too pear shaped, and short on top of that. Luckily between a couple of BBW clothing sites and my sewing machine I can dress as weird as I want to. :)
The dress looks gorgeous on you. Very flattering!
