Happy Time Clothing Shopping Fun on Etsy
We’ve totally been talking about Etsy as a plus-size resource for ages and ages (up to and including bad-ass bikinis), and the site continues to not disappoint. I mean, seriously. Via the incredibly cool Deena of Fat Girls Like Nice Clothes Too, who is fabulous and upon whom I have a crush, comes this absolutely gorgeous dress. I gasped when I saw it, I did. Out loud. Are you tired of things being called “Mad-Men-esque” and retro and etcetera? I am too. But it still is, and I could never, ever get tired of it. Perfect for work, perfect for cocktail parties. Pretty much perfect. And it’s made to order, with your exact measurements. Seriously.
Check out her other stuff while you’re over there–this sweet and sexy dress is a particular favorite, this wrap dress has got POCKETS, this pencil skirt is killing me with how hot it is, and a lady with the right amount of sass, style and panache could pull off this super-cool architectural blouse that I want very, very badly. Also, all her models are actual, real plus-size chicks and I want to bite them all. Yum.
And while we’re at it, check out this excellent older-but-still relevant article on other plus size designers you can find on etsy. I’m just thinking, see, how it’s coming on the holiday season and all, so you are going to need new clothes for parties and things, am I right? I am so right. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOUR HOT BUTT.

Well-timed post is well-timed. I was JUST at Etsy this morning trying to find something epic for the holidays because we’re having a REAL office party at a fancy hotel and I own nothing fancy. Or even slightly dressy. So yay this post!
If I could afford new clothes, I’d get them all at JIBRI. That dress is so gorgeous I might start saving up for it. I just hope it doesn’t sell out and get more expensive while I’m doing so!
There’s definitely some great plus finds on Etsy – and some sellers who aren’t clear on what plus is. ALWAYS check the measurements before buying. There are some sellers who will tag “plus size” on items that just aren’t.
Seriously, that bikini?
The model’s breast is hanging out of the product on both sides (armpit and center chest) and the fit is so poor that the string is around her torso and not around the underbreast where a bikini (or a bra) should sit.
Points for the thought, but the execution leaves something to be desired.
Thanks for the link! Great blog.
Thank you for the plug for my plus size swimwear, I really appreicate it! Thanks for all the convos and encourgement I received today. Thanks for all the appreciation for my plus size models, they are brave for putting themselves out there for the entire world to see. You have a great blog, keep up the good work and I will continue to read it and recommend it to others.
I loved the bikini! The dresses and tops were not me but they look great on the models :)
I bought a tankini and wore it this summer for the first time sans t-shirt of shame cover-up. OK so maybe if I did have the t-shirt on I could have avoided turning into lobster girl for the rest of the summer (pale scottish skin and sun is no bueno) but I felt good enough about myself for the first time in years to do that and I had a ball.
I love seeing more clothes that are flattering to women with curves out there. When I was a fat teenager I had to shop in plus size shops that only had grandma worthy clothes. Imagine how cool I was. Yeah.
Love, love, love the stuff out now! <3 Someday I hope to be able to go into a store with cute things and not leave bummed out because the only thing that would possibly fit me is a pair of socks.
Bikinis: Lands End has a surprisingly good selection of plus size and inbetweenie size suits, I check out their clearance every summer, and end up buying something every other year, their stuff LASTS. This year I have gained some weight from a medication, so I ordered a couple of different styles in the two sizes I figured I was between, in both tankini and bikini variations. My husband voted IMMEDIATELY for the bikini versions.
I have to squee over a set of lingerie I just bought from Cacique/Lane Bryant: Red Plaid Ruffles I’m Scottish, and my husband and I have been keeping an eye out for something along these lines for years. I think he was a bit bummed when we met that I didn’t already have a cute plaid lingerie set!
I wish I could afford dresses like that…Those are pretty effing hot, every single one of them.
Those are lovely, but I wonder if there are resources for people like me, who don’t have that much ballyhooed “hourglass shape”. I have kind of an awkward body shape, and none of these clothes would look good on me. But I really would like to be a bit more fashion forward. Right now I just hide in hoodies and jeans, with my beat up Chuck Taylors. Which is actually a look I enjoy, but sometimes it would be nice to feel like a real live grownup woman.
@Wish – that’s the beauty of custom made clothes! Granted, you may want to choose a different style than some one who’s classic hour glass, but custom made clothes will fit you well, which always looks good. I figure that a well-fitting pencil skirt looks good on everyone, regardless of the ratio between your waist and hip size.
I love Etsy. I always find great pieces there.
