Beth Ditto Unhappy With "Out" Magazine Photos
According to Gawker, that is. (Follow that link to see the pictures, as well as Ditto on the cover of The Enquirer‘s “Best and Worst Beach Bodies” issue. Stay classy, The Enquirer.) But they didn’t say why she was unhappy, or point to a source!
Google searches turned up a whole lot of nothing, but I did find another blog post mentioning it, along with some excerpts from the interview. I personally think the photos look great. They are a quieter, softer Beth Ditto than I’ve seen in pictures before. Not very rock and roll; maybe that’s why she doesn’t like them?
Oh, and you can read the interview here! Which I am now going to do.

The pictures look just fine to me too. Although I like her better with dark hair, I think the blonde washes her out a bit.
She looks like Alison Moyet. Which is not a bad thing, because Alison is gorgeous. But Beth rocks the dark hair, ya know?
Yeah, I prefer her with dark hair, but the photos are still very pretty. Also, not that the tabloids should be shaming *anyone* for their bodies, but is the Enquirer unaware that Beth is like a fat icon? Of course she’s going to rock a bikini top, and more power to her. It’s like those dumb “worst-dressed” lists, where they always pick out someone like Courtney Love or Bjork–like it’s so shocking and unexpected of them to dress quirky. Fashion and body police can kiss my fat ass.
Anyone else look at the Enquirer spread and think how beautiful everyone looked in their bikinis? People enjoying themselves and looking happy are not “worst” anything, the fat police can feck right off.
I like the dark hair on Beth too, I think the shoot makes her look like a young Debbie Harry. I think that might be what they were going for.
Though I think that she looks great body wise if I had to put a finger on it I would say that she was unhappy about her facial expressions. If the photos that I saw were at the direction of the photographer then I would be upset at being told to look emotionless.
As a fellow Arkansan I am proud of everything that she is doing and will be doing in the future.
She looks beautiful, but Beth Ditto doesn’t “do” beautiful. Beth Ditto is loud and crass and opinionatel and wonderfully void of all that is proper and subtle….
The picture is lovely, but it hides Beth’s personality through cafeful poses and soft focus.
I think I’ll be trolling that gAwUcKuRr article from now until I have to leave. I feel that many boards like this need trolls working every possible side of the argument, and right now it seems they’re all working the same side. Self-righteous fat-haters are so much fun to upset.
Wow, those Gawker comments are awful. I can’t believe how many people are angry that they can’t mercilessly mock fat bodies on Jezebel. It’s really interesting to see people let their prejudices out and airing them like that (okay, it also made me cry, but that’s beside the point.)
I agree with Jamie, I think that her personality is completely lost in those photos. I loved her photos in Bust last winter. To me, that was the REAL Beth Ditto.
maybe she’s upset because both photos really do a lot to hide her size, and she prefers showing her body off. The one is just of her face, and the other is of her in a dress that’s pretty demure.
