Jim Carrey To Gain Weight For "Famous Fat Guy" Role

March 30th, 2009

Matt sent along a bit of interesting celebrity news last week. He writes that according to Aint It Cool News, Jim Carrey is going to gain 40 pounds to play Curly Howard. He adds:

In the FA community, it’s pretty accepted that fat actors have a better shot at success than fat actresses, but here’s a reminder than even when casting one of the most famous fat guy roles of all time, nothing is certain.

For a more logical alternative, Michael Chiklis played Curly Howard in a 2000 television biopic.

OF COURSE he is! ‘Cause why cast a fat guy when you can have a notoriously skinny guy gain weight and PROBABLY WIN A F**KING OSCAR FOR BEING SO “DARING!”
    I frickin despise Hollywood.

That 2000 biopic was really good. I stumbled upon it one weekend and it had me riveted.

Well, Jim’s frickin fantastic at what he does so I’m not going to be too critical. They could have found an actual fat guy, but I don’t know of one that’s got the chops for the role.

Gaining weight is going to be a real bear for him though, he must have the metabolism of a bumble bee. I hope he doesn’t hurt himself, I remember Clooney got really screwed up by the weight gain and physical demands of Syriana.

I think Micheal looks like Curly to a T. And I just can’t see Jim Carrey even with 40 pounds on him looking like Curly.

At least they’re not going the fat suit route; I suppose that’s an upside…

Sounds good for publicity – not only do they have a big name in Hollywood in the role, but there’s extra media coverage for the OMG he’s gaining weight! stories.
