Fat chicks have more sex than skinny chicks. Sorry, skinny ladies, but it’s science. The story is kind of troubling, though, when you start to look at it up close.
The results seem to contradict stereotypes that overweight and obese women have less sex. If anything, the researchers said, the opposite seems to be true.
Is [...]

The name of this product, the “pink patch,” sounds so innocuous, doesn’t it? It’s a nicotine-patch-like patch (okay that was some awkward construction) that is being marketed to teenage girls as a weight loss tool. (And it’s for girls, so it’s pink of course.)
The takedown of the Pink Patch at Fitness Fixation is just [...]

Listen, I don’t know who the hell this guy thinks he is, but I kind of want to kick him in the shins. Oh my mistake, it’s two guys; dancers on Dancing with the Stars who are calling two of the female dancers fat and lecturing them about their weight publicly.
Louis Van Amstel said, “People [...]

I was interested in this New York Times article about a new, “less invasive” weight loss surgery, currently in the experimental stage, in which surgeons go down the patient’s throat and staple the stomach from the inside.
In Mexico and Europe over the past two to three years, 98 patients have had the new weight-loss [...]

Nonk just messaged to tell me that the mother (and possibly also her brother) of honorary BFDiva Jennifer Hudson have been shot and killed in Chicago. I just felt I wanted to say something here when I heard this terrible, tragic news.
This article has a picture of Jennifer and her mom, and says [...]

After complaints from parents, teenagers, bloggers, and concerned people everywhere, MTV is not going to air Model Maker after all. Darryl Roberts from the Huffington Post, who advocated against the show, says:
In my letter, which I know many of you read, I warned MTV of the dangers of promoting such a careless and destructive message. [...]

Thought it couldn’t get any crazier than the baby food diet or the swallow a tapeworm diet? While surfing around gossip blogs today, I ran across a reference to celebrities going on an “IV diet.” As in intravenous. Diet. I found the blurb here:
One of Hollywood’s dirty little secrets is the ‘IV diet’, in which [...]

I was shopping this weekend, and it got me thinking about the way that I’ve often walked into stores that carry sizes that are unlikely to fit me (often while shopping with thinner friends) and headed straight for the accessories: sparkly jewelry, hats, bags, scarves. All the things that are (that dreaded phrase) “one size [...]

In the world of celebrities, the phrase “full figured” is applied to such women as Jennifer Lopez, Kate Winslet, and America Ferrera—a category of women who I’ve always viewed as “Hollywood fat.” The women who are called “full figured” are often treated as overweight by the media; we’ve seen it time and again. The problem [...]

No, I don’t usually write about politics here, but I am absolutely obsessed with the American presidential election. I can’t even tell you how many times a day I check FiveThirtyEight; it’s a sickness. So when I found an article about fat people and the election, I made a beeline for my web browser so [...]

We wrote about Neil LaBute’s play “Fat Pig” way back in 2006 (links to a cached version of the post since mopie.com is still intermittently down) so it’s been on the radar for quite some time. But Sheila sent along this article in the Guardian, in response to the new London production of “Fat Pig,” [...]

BFDude Matt saw Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist this weekend, and wrote in with some observations about the film. (I love his reference to Kermit and Miss Piggy; I totally related to them back in high school.)
Hi Monique, something I noticed while watching Nick & Norah tonight that might be BFD related.
Kat Dennings is bigger [...]

A couple of people have sent me this link this morning, and thank you very much to all of you! The New York Times has written an article about de-stigmatizing fat, the fat acceptance movement, and the genetics of obesity. An absolute must-read.
But some activists and academics, part of a growing social movement [...]
