Just a random drive-by piece of fat hate for you. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programs.

I thought this was a clever line, the other comments are so intense...should I form a stronger thought.

I don't really know what to say. It's beyond fat hatred, it's simply sadistic if you ask me. When I had my gall bladder removed, I could barely walk let alone run on a treadmill attached to my bed so to loose weight.

The hipsters must like to say it's for fat people, so they don't need to address it's just symptomatic of their own leaning towards Orthorexia. Cause you know, the thin people ARE entitled to go through life denying their unhealthy behaviors.

Good grief, I hope those haters never wind up with some kind of medical condition where it's hard for them to move.

I think the "treadmill bed" is a fantastic idea for people with certain medical conditions where getting up from a supine position may be difficult. As HillaryGayle pointed out - if this prevents DVT, wow man, that's great. I lost a family friend to DVT.

But the news story should not be used as a "straight line" to hate on fat people.

I'm totally done with the snarky hip humor and those who purvey it; it makes me so tired. It's just people pointing out that they think they're superior to other people. It's not much different from the "Polack" jokes of the 1970s or the blackface humor of the nineteen-teens. It's rude, it's dehumanizing, and you know what?

It tells you more about the person making the cracks than the joke they're making fun of. It tells me the person making the jokes is an a-hole.

This is stupid. Why did they tie this in with obesity? Plenty of people in hospitals have complications & even die of DVT; thin, fat, & everyone in between. That's what I see this bed as useful for: the perils of immobility, not the perils of obesity.

As a nursing student, I'm getting damned sick of seeing EVERYTHING related back to obesity.

Yes, I know it's early, but i'm heartened by the fact that the majority of the posts either pick on this writer's obvious unfamiliarity on almost ALL aspects of the topic he's writing about, or they directly address the fat hate right back at him.

I know, give it time and there will be fat haters chirping in. But I'm enjoying it now.

Carol,

May I suggest stuffing them full of doughnuts until they pop. as seen in the movie Se7en?

I'm usually offended, but that was a pretty nasty article for a tech blog.

As for the hipster and hate thing, the BoingBoing crowd hasn't made me want to slap them silly in the last couple of weeks. So that's something.

The first thing we do...let's kill all the fatophobes! I suggest allowing those massive mortals against whom the phobes rail the privilege of plopping down upon them and crushing their skinny bodies. Ahhhh.....
the pleasures of daydreams!

You know, the treadmill - and the concept of exercising for rehab/recuperation - is something I wish a relative of mine could have had when he was in the hospital. I think it could have helped reverse the condition that ultimately took him down.

But I think the hipster-extreme-hate thing has something to do with the competitive urge run amok tinged with toxic combinations of the need to conform and the need to individuate by taking a trend to the extreme.

Not that I want to spend more time than I absolutely must - for my own survival - figuring those fly-winged wasted dumps out.
