I dunno, a lot of fat people think skinny is the main (and almost only) criteria for beauty, but once you get there there are always other hoops to jump through.
Me personally, I think fat people look better fat. It's undeniable that when Oprah got ultra skinny, she looked sick. When Star Jones lost all that weight, she lost her beautiful face. Al Roker has never looked the same. When people lose a drastic amount, they look sick.
I'm not saying Blair looks sick, I'm just saying that perfection for her might entail putting on a few pounds, but she knows she won't work in Hollywood if she does it. So she has to work to keep a little man's body and hate it, for now. Hopefully it evens out for her; I like her style too.

Seems to be another case of Hollywood's constant upping of beauty standards, driving another poor actress insane.

MR, let's play fair. I never said doing drugs made users "sub concious." I said I thought tripping was like dreaming while being awake.

And to clarify: the people I know who trip while I'm sober don't sound like morons sober. Of course I know some people sound like morons when they are stone sold sober.

People can make their case for doing or not doing drugs.

I agree with you, MR. Drug use does not = magic bullet. Doesn't necessarily HURT every user, but in my life, I've never seen it help any of my loved ones in any demonstrable way.

My partner and I do A LOT of acid. Well, not a huge amount, but we do it fairly regularly. Neither of us like alcohol, so it is our "relaxing weekend" drug of choice.

I wouldn't call the experience of tripping monumentally profound, in and of itself, but it can remove you from yourself and consensus reality in such a way that your insecurities get forgotten, at least for the duration of the trip. In my experience, this can be a very eye-opening exercise. I am not a person who typically lives/acts without the nagging voice of insecurity, as hard as I try to overcome it. Simply living and moving through the world without it, for a little while, can be very interesting and catalyzing, if you are in the right frame of mind.

The amount you do matters a lot, though. Higher doses are generally less recreational and more out-of-bodyish. Quality also matters, as does the batch. We have had "flavours" that are extra funny, extra sexy, extra scary, etc. Every one turns out a little differently, (in the sense that wines have signatures, even though the ingredients/methods are largely the same) so each batch is a different trip.

Basically, I wouldn't call it a magic bullet, but it can certainly be an effective tool. I also don't think drugs automatically make you "sub conscious", as one poster said. Sure, some people sound like jackasses when they're high, but some people sound ridiculous sober. Like so many things, you get out of a trip what you put into it. It can be, in my experience, as effective a tool as meditation. Just as meditation can be equally useless when it is undertaken in the wrong way, or insincerely. I think of (some kinds of) drugs as part of an overall quest for mental and physical health.

So, it might help her, but only if she's ready to help herself. That all sounded very flaky-hippie-ish, which I swear I'm not. Really.

I am a portrait photographer and take pictures of a lot of adults, so I can safely say that at least 70% of women hate their bodies, and the other 30% just tolerate their bodies. I have had 14 year old girls who were skinny as a rail almost cry because they thought all the portraits made them look fat. It's overwhelming trying to understand why sometimes.

I don't think acid is likely to be the best thing to help you get over your body insecurity. It is just as likely to magnify it until there's nothing else. Ecstasy, now maybe you're talking. Pot makes me eat. Definately not useful for weight loss

Drug tripping is mind-opening? Really?

I thought it was more like dreaming while awake. Also, as the perennial *designated driver* among my friends who use drugs, I have to say that my personal experience with people who trip is that, to my sober ears, they sound like complete morons, not open-minded.

But maybe you have to be inside the mind to experience it....

If a person really wants to "fix their head" as Selma puts it, I'd recommend meditation and clearing thoughts, rather than trying ANY drug.
Drugs are not a mind opening avenue, they're actually putting you beneath conscious thought.
I'd actually recommend Selma read the book "A New Earth" but hey I doubt that will happen.

How many people take crack/cocaine in order to boost their self confidence and end up an addict with ruined lives?
Drugs as a form of self confidence is a myth which is just as deceiving as the myth that being thin will make you happy.

Also currently reading the Beauty Myth, and Selma Blair (and all the other gorgeous insecure actresses) feel inadequate because the beauty standard is impossible, that's the point of the beauty standard. NOBODY is ever good enough.
