Consciousness-raising and snappy comebacks

Starbucks Smoothies & BlogHer

July 17th, 2008

How do these two things connect to each other? Well, I’m heading off to start the BlogHer fun this evening, and this morning I had a new Starbucks Vivanno Chocolate-Banana-Espresso smoothie. So, they kind of don’t connect at all. Maybe we should also talk about Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog, so this can be truly random. (It is awesome, and Neil Patrick Harris is my boyfriend.)

First of all, the Starbucks Vivanno drinks launched yesterday and you know me, I’m a Starbucks addict, so I was intrigued. I looked up the nutrition information for the chocolate banana version (there is also an orange mango version) and found this:

Good news: neither of the drinks has any artificial sweeteners or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)! The Banana Chocolate Blend Vivanno has 270 calories, 45 calories from fat, 5 grams of fat, 2.5 grams saturated fat, no trans fat, 15 mg cholesterol, 170 mg sodium, 44 grams carbs, 6 grams fiber, 28 grams sugars, 21 grams protein and 15 mg caffeine.

On evenings when I teach, I’ve been struggling with trying to find something to eat to get me through a one-hour drive and four hours of classes. So far a coffee, banana, and granola bar combo has been the default. But this drink seemed promising: lots of protein, some fiber, caffeine if you add a shot of espresso, and probably pretty tasty, too. So I tried it this morning and I have to say it was delightful. The bad news is, I was really hungry again an hour later. It doesn’t really comprise a meal, it turns out. Still: tasty.

Second of all, BlogHer starts today, and don’t forget we have a BFD meetup from 1:45-225 on Saturday! I believe it will be taking place in Tower Salon A. If you can’t make it but would like to meet up another time, or aren’t going to the conference but still would like to meet up for coffee or a martini, drop me an e-mail, piegirl(at)gmail.com. I would love to meet as many BFDivas as I can this weekend! And I will be updating and Twittering as the conference progresses. So stay tuned.

I tried the new smoothy today. I had the banana orange mango one. It’s all banana man. Very tasty but all banana sadly. However the peach yogurt granola parfait I had was made of crunchy win.

I had the orange mango. Also tasty. Also not filling. Also? Dr. Horrible rocks HARD!

I’m scared to try either actually. My best friends all work for Starbucks and they all agree that the chocolate one tastes like throw up and the mango one something worse. What I did find out is very tasty, though, are the blended lemonades.

I HEART Dr. Horrible. Sadly, I seem to be the only one in my cabal who gets it. I need new minions.
