Well, if it's American Apparel, she can carry up to XXL in women's, so if she only goes S-M-L and uses AA as her alibi, there's something else going on.

Seriously, I have an American Apparel XXL t-shirt.

You know, I asked her that and the answer had to do with the fact that American Apparel has a very fine jersey that works best with the intricacies of her designs, and they don't carry plus sizes. So she's definitely not trying to exclude anyone (and can take custom work if she's not busy) but since she runs a micro-business, I imagine she's kind of stuck buying through a single textile/apparel distributor to get the bulk deal. Maybe if she gets enough requests for custom work, she'll look into carrying sizes beyond S-M-L?

Maybe someone should address the question of why that designer doesn't carry plus sizes?

Very cool and crafty idea. This is just a comment out of nowhere to say that once I ordered a onesie from Circular Accessories to give as a baby gift and it turned out that the artist and I went to elementary school together -- I had no idea what the identity of the artist was before that -- and I just drove over to her house to pick it up rather than doing it through the mail. I love her stuff! It is a small, artsy, wonderful world.

Ooh! I love the designs at Circular Accessories, but, as you say, she doesn't carry plus sizes. This is a great idea!

Oh my god, that's such a great, great idea! So many times I find myself drawn to a tee design on Etsy or eltsewhere, only to turn away when I discover that they use the (strange, clingy, nipple-showing) American Apparel line as the canvas for their designs. But now that you've opened my eyes, I'm so excited to see if my favorite designers are willing/able to take my favorite well-fitting (I've actually been having some good tee luck at Dress Barn, of all places) tops to a new, customized level, yay!
