I thought (from the original green logo) she was holding 2 fish b/c of the Pikes place market and the whole fish throwing. Hmmm.

I think it's kind of weird how her tail is parted in two like a girl holding up her legs to show her youha. As for the chubby part, I think it's cool someone thought a mermaid could be chubby too. :)

I like the retro logo, although the tail thing looks uncomfortable to me -- but then, I'm not much good at yoga, either.

Liked browsing through the history of the logo on the link above, and it's kind of cool that Starbucks is bringing back a bit of thier history, for a little while, anyway.

For cryin' out loud. It's retro! That's all the rage these days. I agree with Flora, this is why I avoid the media at all costs. People are constantly looking for something to be offended by. Not to mention, in this ever-changing world, people still hate change of any kind. I love the retro logo.

I like this one. There is a Starbucks nearby with a big old sign featuring a stylized mermaid in profile (I can't find a picture of it online, and haven't seen it at any other Starbucks...weird). For the longest time, I thought it was an otter holding some rocks.

(There is a picture of the Starbucks on someone's labor of love website, but, alas, it does not show the sign. See the Pico and Robertson pic, about 1/4 of the way down: http://www.starbuckseverywhere.net/LosAngeles.htm)

They told us at our local starbucks they only went brown for a short time to generate media for their new pikes place coffee or whatnot.

My question- why would anyone care if someone thinks the picture is attractive or not? All art is subjective and when did the word chubby automatically make everyone think the person who said it was making a call on whether that meant attractive or not? The pic does show a chubby merthing- I personally don't think the word chubby is bad!

I took a class on goddesses and the two-tailed mermaid was also a symbol of protection (it can be found in old churches) and is another take on a symbol of a woman with her legs spread. It is a woman in power and in this case in control of her own sexuality. This is before more monotheistic masculine based religions/cultures turned the divine feminine into a bad thing (sirens, Eve, etc.) Thought it was interesting and wish they had gone into more depth in the class.

I also like the "old school"-ness of the brown logo, but I'm not really into coffee. Tea is more... well... my cup of tea. Mmmm.

Also, Nomie, I wasn't exactly paying attention when I was reading the comments, and the "fish p0rn!" had me laughing out loud.

The new logo, with its deep sepia tones, has a very c.1900 look to it. Must admit that I never noticed the SIZE of the mermaid but thought the dual tail look was amusing.

Will ask the baristas at my regular 'Bucks (located in the very heart of Hollywood!) for their reactions to the new look.
