The Body Image Project
Like the Movies recently liked to the Body Image Project, describing it as a blog “where people anonymously write in about their perceptions of and struggles with body image.”
Age 17
In middle school I remember being happy. No one talked about their weight or their body. I am now in high school and the girls at my school are constantly criticizing their bodies and the bodies of others. There is always talk of this girl throwing up, or that girl not eating, or another sneaking into an unused classroom to do another 100 sit-ups. It’s almost like a sick competition. It’s become more of a struggle to feel OK about yourself. Before high school, I thought I looked alright. Now I’m just trying to fit in with the rest of the girls. It’s like we all strive to look like the other and I don’t even know why.
The archives are small and it looks like the site is just getting rolling, but it seems like such a worthwhile project. It won’t take too long for you to read it, but it’ll stick with you. Check it out.

It’s nice it allows an outlet for people to express what they may have difficulty saying out loud IRL.
Reminds me a bit of A Shape Of A Mother.
Oh – and I have tried 2 times to post about s p a m I see on your blog when I check it with my phone (but never on my computer, go figure). Both comments never posted and now I am guessing because I typed out p o r n and v i a g r a. LOL Anyway, just wanted to let you know that poorly spelled s p a m tops your page on my phone with links – no idea why it shows on my phone and not on your site on my computer but wanted to give you the heads up.
It seems like there’s a lot of talk about body image and young women’s struggle to maintain a realistic one.
But the ideals are still there, so specific, so unrelenting.
Oh, goodness, middle school was the most miserable time for me in many ways, body image included. High school was quite a bit more tolerable.
I went from 5’6″ and 239 to 5’10” and 170 over the course of my freshman year, that probably helped. Now I’m back at 230, but at least I didn’t shrink.
What a great blog. I just found it today. I look forward to reading more!
