Dress Barn Woman
As promised, this is a picture of the dress I wore to my fancy poetry reading event. Although the night has been a little overshadowed by the fact that I had to fly to New York the next day, and I haven’t had much of a chance to talk about it, it was an utterly delightful event. Colorado State University took very good care of us (me and the artist, the incredibly talented Karin Carter) and the gallery opening seemed to be a success!
Anyway, the point is, here is my dress, and it was indeed from Dress Barn, of all places. It is a smoking hot dress, you guys. If I could go back in time and wear it to my wedding, I totally would, and it only cost fifty bucks. In fact, the whole outfit was an exercise in thrift, since the shoes were from Payless and the polka-dot tights were from Target. In fact, I think my haircut cost more than the entire outfit. (And thank god, because that is a magical haircut. If you live in San Francisco and want a magical haircut, e-mail me. I’ll hook you up.) So the moral of the story is: every once in a while, dress up in a very pretty dress. And once you find a good stylist, don’t ever let him go.

You look awesome! I want to see a close up of the polkadot tights.
ok, i”m speachless. DRESS BARN? FOR real?? That is a totally Sassy hot dress! LOVE IT!
I have no idea what Dress Barn is, but you look absolutely gorgeous!
Who knew Dress Barn could do such things as pretty dresses? Love it!
Very cute dress!
O/T: whenever I read “Dress Barn Woman,” I think of the chorus to “Sex Farm” by Spinal Tap.
Oh my gosh you look gorgeous! I love the polkadot tights, just awesome! You freaking go!
So cute! And I wish I lived in SF so I could get a magical haircut!
that dress is really cute. but your hair? steals the show. it’s fantastic!
(^^; i’ve never commented here before, i am usually too shy to comment on other people’s blogs..)
But I have to say that you look gorgeous in that dress!
:) I remember seeing that dress at dress barn too! I went there with my mom and just happened to find a dress that I could use for my high school Christmas Dance (http://lovemeformexox.wordpress.com/2007/12/05/christmas-dance-dress/) I got mine for $50 too (which made poor old me happy!)
*and I will now take a moment to spazz* :) I saw you on TV!
Love your haircut too!
Sex Farm!
*snort!*
Love the dress.
Love the shoes.
Love the tights.
Love everything.
Rip-off of delightful Rupert Everett banter brought to you by My Best Friends Wedding.
You look stunning; what a great outfit! (Of course the haircut rocks too.)
You look great! I own lots of fabulous Dress Barn clothes. I’ll grant you that they need to rethink the name of their store, but their clothes are great, they have an inhouse seamstress to do alterations and they are not frighteningly expensive. Around here (rural SW Missouri) the choices are Wal-Mart and Dress Barn and Lane Bryant. WalMart is cheap and shabby looking, Lane Bryant is too expensive and tends to be too young and casual for my age and work environment. Dress Barn hits the mark perfectly.
My God, Mo, but you are stunning! From head to toe, freakin’ gorgeous!!
You look gorgeous!
I love that dress, now I need to go find a fancy event to attend hehehe!
Beautiful!
And I love your haircut – maybe I’ll drive the 6 hours to check your place out, heh.
Cath, the “Sex Farm Woman” thing was totally on purpose! I’m so happy that someone got my Spinal Tap reference!
Well, you look lovely! Also, I want your shoes.
I was unreasonably thrilled to discover that you’re in Dever – and the dress is great, although I can’t get past the name Dress Barn. Every time I hear it, I imagine horses and cowns in ditzy prints and pearls.
You look MAHvelous, darling, and don’t you have hot legs!
That dress is smokin’. Rethinking Dress Barn indeed!
“The looser the waistband,
the deeper the quicksand,
or so I have read …”
:D
That’s a cute dress! I saw it and tried it on at my Dress Barn around xmas time, but it didn’t look all that great on me. It looks faboo on you though! Good choice! :)
God you have great legs. *stare*
Oh. Er. Great dress, too. ;D
OMG you look so freakin’ hot! If I was into girls, I’d totally hit on you!
I haven’t been inside a Dress Barn since the early ’90s, tagging along with my mother, watching her buy shapeless sack jumpers in strange colors and prints. I’m glad to see there’s cute stuff there because I’m going to have to go shopping for reals soon if I want to get a good job. The end of college is a strange thing–you thought you were in the real world, but you’d been wearing jeans and T-shirts every day, and now you have to dress like an adult. It’s kind of scary.
Mo…I don’t know if it was the dress or not, but you were in my dream last night. Not sure why… can’t remember what happened. Just hoguth I’d share.
Hey, I searched around and didn’t see anything about this here so I thought I would mention it. Apparently a house bill is being introduced in Mississippi that will ban people with BMIs over 30 from being served in restaurants.

That dress is FABULOUS! I also re-discoverd Dress Barn again myself for my holiday gala. You can find some good stuff in there.
