Big-upping the fat girls

My Friends, Save Yourselves

November 9th, 2007

I’m not proud of my Starbucks addiction, but I worked there for three years, and three years of free drinks… well, isn’t that the way all the drug dealers work? Your first hit is free? Anyway, now I am a Starbucks addict. If you aren’t, you should be thankful and ignore the rest of this post. If you are, though, come a little closer. Because on this Feel Good Friday, I will tell you something that is so, so good: the new sugar free gingerbread syrup that Starbucks has for the holidays. I agree with Princess Nebraska:

[T]his weekend I saw a little sign in Starbucks that said that the Gingerbread Latte is coming back in four days and this year they are going to have a sugar free one and I almost wept tears of joy right then and there at the thought of all the delicious calorie free chemicals I’ll be ingesting this year. The Gingerbread Latte and the premiere of Project Runway in nine days and I swear, I don’t even need Christmas presents this year.

When I heard that they’d come out with a sugar free version of my favorite starbucks syrup, I actually said to the barista, “Oh my god, I want to make out with you right now.” She looked at me a little funny but at that moment, I meant it.

They are so delicious that it’s actually becoming a problem. I had two of them yesterday. SAVE YOURSELVES.

Mmm, and the gingerbread biscotti makes for excellent pairing!

I only get one drink at Starbucks, and since it’s not officially on the menu, I’ve been charged anywhere from $.40 to more than $3. I get a plain steamed soymilk (no syrup) and add in Splenda and the powder vanilla. It’s so delicious. I’ve emailed Starbucks to put it on the menu, but never got a response back.

Oh, Starbucks. How do I love thee? How can I not afford thee? I’m lucky I’m too poor for it or I’d be all caffeine-jittery and psycho.

The sugar-free syrups taste like ass, IMO. I get a sugar-free vanilla latte or something every so often but usually I end up wishing I had just gotten an unflavored one.

If I were them I would just repackage the existing Sugar Free Cinnamon Dolce syrup and call it Sugar Free Gingerbread… :)

But I am glad so many of you will get to enjoy treats that you love this holiday season. I heart Starbucks. I see many Christmas-themed drinks in my future over the next several weeks. :)

Never got into the Starbucks habit, myself.

My sister, though, will go postal if she doesn’t nurse a frappucino for 2 hours a day.

I have a favorite sweet spice blend containing cinnamon, allspice dried orange peel, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. This time of year, I love to put a few drops of vanilla extract and a sprinkle of the spice blend on top of the coffee in the filter basket, and once the coffee is brewed, add a bit of sugar and some cream and oh, heaven!

Gourmet vanilla-spice coffee at home, cheaper than the drive-thru, and you know what’s in it. And you can go the sugar-free route of your choice, if you prefer. If you like the treat but can’t afford the $4.00 at the coffee place, I recommend it.

Ooooo… that means the Eggnog Latte’s are just around the corner too. Mmmmm… the one time of year that I actually go out of my way to stop at a starbucks.

egg nog latte??!!! that sounds intriguing!

I have only recently discovered Starbucks. And it’s a good thing that they are so damn expensive or else I’d be getting Caramel Frappuucinos every day.

Starbucks is my crack, mostly because I work retail in a store that has one inside.

I had a gingerbread latte yesterday because it was the sample and when I tried it it was so good.

I’m not a Starbucks fan, I prefer Second Cup (it’s a Canadian chain, so most of you probably don’t know it). They have a candy cane latte that I look forward to all year… wonder if it’s out yet.

I’m not a fan of the warm drinks at Starbucks, BUT adore their frappes and the rest of the cold stuff.

And if they in turn, come up with a sugar free version of the Gingerbread Frappuccino, I too, will use the line, “Oh my god, I want to make out with you right now.” Mmmmmmmmness.

If they ever came out with a sugar-free mocha, I’d happily f*ck the barista blind.

    Just sayin’

I dunno about egg nog lattes, but every year around this time I trade in my usual whole milk thang and use egg nog in my regular French press jolt. Mmm. Every once in a while I’ll swing by Starbucks and get a fix, but it’s never the Fancy Swishy Drinks. Oh, and I absolutely refuse to refer to anything by faux Italian names–they may hate me, but I insist on ordering a SMALL coffee or a LARGE tea. With a dose of peppermint syrup. And word to whoever said sugar-free stuff tastes like ass. YMMV, of course, but why use a “skeery” chemical when the real thing tastes so damn good? :)

I am a Starbucks addict, but since I hate cinnamon, almost all typical Christmas treats don’t do anything for me; I couldn’t care less about the gingerbread latte.

  14. Karin, on November 10th, 2007 at 6:05 pm Said:

Oooops, I clicked on “submit” too fast!

I just wanted to add even though I couldn’t care less about the gingerbread latte, I feel you on the “I want to make out with you” statement. I think I’ve used that once in a while, especially in my local Starbucks… :o)

OK! I am sitting here drinking a SF Gingerbread Latte because after I read this post, I promptly left work and went to Starbucks (naturally)! I think it tastes like cough syrup. Oh well!

  16. GoingLoopy, on November 12th, 2007 at 3:57 pm Said:

I too love the gingerbread latte, but actually like the Cinnamon Dolce and Toffee Nut better.

And honestly, the eggnog tastes almost like the gingerbread, only it’s slightly richer.
