Make Paris Hilton Fat

November 1st, 2007

This game is so insane that I have no idea what to say about it. The object is to fling, like, hot dogs at Paris Hilton. She eats them and gets fatter and fatter; the fatter she gets, the higher your score. At the end, you can give her “sympathy liposuction” and watch her deflate. Here’s what the game creator has to say:

So I did not actually see Paris Hilton in Paris but my friend did. She was posing with all these industry big-wigs and my friend thought that as soon as she entered the room the place suddenly felt like a strip club! We had a long chat about how she is like an American icon and stuff, but I argued that no one that skinny could symbolise America’s over-indulgent culture :-) We both agreed tho that there is not much Paris in Paris Hilton.

I forgot to mention that when you are flinging the hot dogs, etc. at Paris, her dog will leap up and eat them if you aim wrong. I played this after having a couple of beers and I just had to laugh. It’s totally ridiculous.

I really suck at those kinds of games. Her dog ate most of them. If you don’t get a whole bunch in a row, she gets skinny again. I agree it’s totally ridiculous (if not a good minute-long diversion from my work).

You’re supposed to click really fast–I got a message telling me that when I was aiming one hot dog at a time.

I can’t believe I just typed that sentence.

Isn’t it just lovely how that feeds into the stereotype of over-eating makes everyone fat?

  4. Corinna, on November 1st, 2007 at 1:33 pm Said:

I feel so conflicted. I am really happy that I made Paris fat – only because I like to win and I hate to lose, and yet vesta44 totally shamed me by pointing out the stereotype of over-eating automatically making you fat. Sigh.

I am a competitive bee-otch with a questionable moral center. Sorry, I have to go now and spend some quality time with my Playstation.

That is pretty pathetic! Almost as bad as that Feed The Model game over on AdiosBarbie.com! Paris isn’t even that skinny and the fact that anyone would find this game cool is very upsetting. Someone had way too much free time.

And I can’t believe I went back to try it again ;) Slow day at the office.

    Does this count as weightertainment?
I see that the dog gets to eat most of what I throw without gaining! Grr.

What’s more distressing to me is beyond just stereotyping that overeating makes you fat; the fatter she got, the more she consumed.

Games like that are hard on my wrist, hard on my computer’s mouse, and hard on my soul.

    Paris isn’t even that skinny…

Compared to what? An ironing board?

I understand your site’s premise Ashley, I really do. I mean, all that thin-based discrimination must really be traumatic. But I think your perspective is way off base here.

  11. Dutchy, on November 2nd, 2007 at 2:33 am Said:

Minor detail I noticed: I couldn’t aim all that well either, so the dog did most of the eating. But he didn’t get ANY fatter. (BTW, dog was totally cute, even with those stupid sunglasses).
And you’re totally right Vesta, that this ‘game’ claims you get fat by overeating. And not just overeating, but of course overeating on junkfood! Blagh.

  12. Meghan, on November 2nd, 2007 at 9:55 am Said:

Please keep in mind that most video games also claim that you can get shot a million times and keep on kicking.

  13. Ashley, on November 2nd, 2007 at 10:14 am Said:

Rachel, Paris has gained a considerable amount of weight since she first broke out in Hollywood. They could have chosen someone else to play the part in this game, someone much thinner.

And I don’t understand why some of you are saying, “Omg this is totally playing into the stereotype that you get fat by overeating.” Well the fact is, a lot of people DO get fat by overeating. Sure, that’s not the only way people get fat, but it is one of them.

  14. Rachel, on November 2nd, 2007 at 10:36 am Said:

Ashley – the fact that Paris now wears a size 2 instead of a size double-0 does not make her “not all that skinny” by any means.

On your site, you say you’re offended that naturally skinny people like yourself are called anorexic and malnourished. Well, saying that a lot of people are fat because they’re gluttons is offensive to many fat people for the same reason. It’s not true.

Numerous studies show that, as a group, fat people eat no more than their thin counterparts, nor do they eat more than previous generations. Weight gain is largely determined by one’s propensity in metabolizing and storing fat. I can point you to scores of authors on this subject if you’re interested in educating yourself on the wider scope of weight-based stereotypes.

And coming to a pro-fat blog and spouting off that fat people are fat because they eat too much is very rude and in bad taste, I might add.

  15. Ashley, on November 2nd, 2007 at 10:55 am Said:

I just don’t think Paris Hilton looks ‘too thin’ but that’s just me.

And I’m not trying to make a generalization that all or even most fat people are fat because they eat too much, but SOME do. I have a number of friends and family who used to be thin, but they started eating more, gained weight, and now they are overweight. It can and does happen to people everywhere. Are you going to tell me that is just not true, impossible? Or what? Am I just seeing things when I see my now overweight friends eating more and more and gaining more and more weight?

  16. Rachel, on November 2nd, 2007 at 12:07 pm Said:

No, Ashley, and again you’re missing the point.

Saying “a lot of people DO get fat by overeating” is making a generalization about why “a lot of people” are fat. While, perhaps your intent may not have been to consciously denigrate fat people, by regurgitating this factually-incorrect stereotype, you’re doing exactly that.

Numerous studies show that, as a group, fat people eat no more than their thin counterparts, nor do they eat more than previous generations. Of course individual variances occur and are entirely possible. But they are often the exception, and not the rule.

If weight were a simple matter of calories in/calories burned, we would have a nation full of thin people, and not diet-obsessed ones.

And I wonder, how exactly are you basing your measure of what constitutes overeating on the behalf of your overweight friends and family? Do you monitor their diet 24/7, or are you basing it off what they tell you? I’m genuinely curious.

  17. Ashley, on November 2nd, 2007 at 12:16 pm Said:

With my ex boyfriend, I was able to monitor his diet since we lived together and I was buying all of the food he was eating at the time, and I knew exactly what he was eating. The more he ate, the more he gained and the less he ate, the more he lost in weight. It also happened to both of my sisters, my dad and his girlfriend. I noticed that cause and effect each time, as well as verbal confirmation.

  18. Anonymous, on November 2nd, 2007 at 4:04 pm Said:

Ashley, please stop posting. Obviously you’re only for ‘thin acceptance’ (who the fuck really NEEDS that movement in this social climate?) and not the opposite. You can’t have body acceptance while only catering to one body type; wise up and try coming back later.

  19. mo pie, on November 2nd, 2007 at 4:15 pm Said:

Anonymous, it’s not up to you to say who is or is not welcome here. Ashley is absolutely welcome to post here, and we’re doing ourselves no favors by being exclusionary.

Of course overeating sometimes makes people gain weight. I mean, that’s how Renee Zellwegger gained weight for her movies, right? It’s perfectly possible that Ashley knows people who overate and gained weight. Maybe it doesn’t always work like that, but saying it doesn’t happen is just illogical.

  20. Ashley, on November 2nd, 2007 at 11:17 pm Said:

    Thank you Mo Pie. :-)

  21. DAB, on November 4th, 2007 at 3:35 am Said:

Since when did Paris gain “a considerable amount of weight”? I’m pretty sure if she gained weight, People magazine would be all over it with a “shocking” cover story. And what is a “considerable” amount? 5, 10 pounds? :rolls eyes: Why even defend her in the first place.

    Game sounds funny though.

  22. Kate, on November 4th, 2007 at 7:24 am Said:

For me, the most offensive thing is how “no one that skinny could symbolise America’s over-indulgent nature”. It’s the same scapegoating of fat people as “eating up all the resources,” whereby everyone gets to ignore their own over-consumption of material goods because hey, you can’t tell they’re not greedy materalists because they’re not fat! My guess would be the rich, skinny people who can afford personal trainers, expensive gym memberships, nutritionists, personal chefs, and liposuction do way more harm to the environment with their cars, private jets, and huge houses than any damn fat person, and you can bet they consume way the hell more, because they can afford to.

Why not create a game where you throw diamond necklaces, expensive handbags, and designer shoes at her until she falls over with the weight of it all? Wouldn’t that be a good (and accurate) way to symbolise her over-indulgent nature?

  23. Ashley, on November 4th, 2007 at 3:05 pm Said:

DAB, the only time I’ll defend Paris is about her weight. I can’t stand her otherwise, but despite my opinion of her as a person, I have to admit that I honestly I think she looks fine the way she is and I cannot stand to see people insinuate that she’s anorexic, too thin or what have you. Same goes for other celebrities that are thin but healthy. Why didn’t they make this game about Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, or MK Olsen. All 3 of those women were once way, way skinnier than Paris ever was. I just wonder why they chose her to make fun of about weight, and the fact that someone made a game about this is disgusting. That would be like someone making a gamed called, “Make the fatty run the treadmill!” But of course, that wouldn’t be ‘funny’ now would it?

  24. Rachel, on November 4th, 2007 at 4:21 pm Said:

Actually, I don’t think this is about Paris’ weight at all, as much as it’s about the fact that she is a very superficial, shallow and not very likable person. And that’s why she’s the target of the game, and not other celebrities.

The person who made this game probably suffers from the same assumptions many of us have fallen victim to: that one gains weight by overeating, and that fat is unattractive. Hence, the best way to make fun of Paris is to show her in such a light.
