Hypothetical BFD-Con
We brought up the idea of a BFD-con in this post, and a few people seem interested in the general concept. I figured on this Feel Good Friday, it might be fun to talk about it. If we had a BFD-con in San Francisco, would you be interested in attending? What kinds of things would you like to see happen? A yoga class? Karaoke? Fat scrapbooking? Panels? Picnics? Pot smoking?
Let’s make a wish list!

*Weeps because SF is on the other coast. Oh yes, they have planes. I think a picnic would be fun and a party or maybe even a dress-up fun cocktail hour type deal.
I would totally fly up to have a picnic with you, Mo. I think yoga and a cocktail aprty would be awesome also.
(Also, I will be up there in October so I hope I get to see you then for sure!)
I can has pot?
Picnic?
Scrapping?
I’m in.
I’ll be reppin’ for Calgary, Canada.
BFD con = genius
Eeeee!
I would be very interested in attending, but whether I could get there is the other question, since I live halfway around the world and am of recent years hopeless at actually going anywhere. And flying is not carbon neutral. Although I’ve always wanted to come to San Francisco, so maybe I need an excuse.
Hypothetically… Yoga, yeah. Picnic sounds good, also cocktails if G&T is a cocktail. I don’t really know what scrapbooking is (is it like making a photo album? Because I consider that a chore.)
I would be very interested in coming, but don’t know if I actually could without enough notice to really save up for it. However, isn’t Igigi also based in San Francisco? I would like to see it in person one day.
Yes, please.
Barbary Lane tour – Fancy dress cocktails at Harry Denton’s Starlight Room – Walk in Golden Gate Park and along the Bay – Alcatraz tour – pictures in front of the haggis store from So I Married an Axe Murderer (Heed, Down!) – Belden Place – Grace Cathedral.
And Wedding Pictures! With wine and brownies (pot or not) for the so inclined?
Is this con-worthy or just my dream trip to SF?
I would be very interested – SF is only a few hours up the road after all. Yoga sounds fun (I’ve never tried it, but would like to), and cocktails are always great!
I’m often in SFO on business, and if I happen to be there, I’ll totally join in. Otherwise, I probably cannot afford to come all the way from Minneapolis!
I vote for yoga and drinking. ;-)
Alright, Ladies and Gentlemen.. Here’s my master plan (also known as my gleeful thoughts 5 minutes after reading this post):
In one corner we’ve got the Cocktail Lounge, complete with Cosmos, Bloody Marys, and Adiosmuthafuckas. Beer drinkers, I expect you to bring a 12 pack of your favorite brew (but none of the macro shiite, ok?)
In the opposite corner is the Circle Of Friends, complete with rotating joints, acoustic guitars, and homemade jewelry (opposite, because you should never mix the two aforementioned vices, ladies. Remember that!)
The east wing shall feature one or more yoga gurus, with a little Tai Chi to spice things up. Hula hoops optional.
Last, but certainly not least, The west is reserved for my most favorite vice of all: FOOD. I’m bringing the southern fried chicken (hypothetically speaking, of course.)
Geez, I haven’t been this excited about a con since… actually, ever!
I would definitely attend a BFD-Con. Count me in!
I would totally completely go to BFD Con (helps that I live in SF!). I’m all for panels, drinks, and karaoke. Yoga, not so much.
Oh, just had a thought – shopping tour of all the stores that carry plus sizes?
I would totally attend this in San Francisco (I live here). Thumbs up on the Igigi field trip (I’ve been there and it’s great!) and maybe we could hit a few other fatshionista stops? I’m all for drinks and karaoke, too.
Yes, Igigi is based in SF and they have a lovely little boutique in the Mission and the designer might even pop out and start recommending certain pieces for you, as that happened to Anne and me when we were there last fall. I’m in if it happens in 2008. As of right now, my travel budget and vacation is totally cashed for this year.
But how about April 2008? And I vote for a tea party at the Japanese Garden in GG park!
How ’bout a Brownie tasting, similar to a wine tasting? We could all bring our favorite recipe and vote.
A tour of the Ghirardelli facilities?
Yoga, yoga, yo-ga!
Wine, wine, wine!
BFD-Con
Sounds real fine!
Yay, Mo! Go, Mo!
Yaaaaaaaaay, MO!!!!
Signed,
the cheerleader I never was
P.S. April 2008. I will need a break during election season. xo littlem
Oh, and perhaps a tasting tour of the distillery that produces Hangar One? :D
Hey, C –
We’ll have them come to Our Coast for the next one. Are you north or south?
Actually, sad to say, the Igigi boutique is closed now, and it’s really tough to find their clothes in the area. When I called to ask about it the woman hinted that there may be stores coming, but for right now there aren’t any good local options.
I’m up for whatever.
I can’t guarantee that I could make it, but I’m totally in in spirit!
Heartbroken to learn the Igigi boutique no longer exists, though. :(
yes yes yes! sf sf sf! karaoke karaoke karaoke!
love sarah
Count me in, especially if it’s next April 2008, per Weetabix’s thought. As if it wouldn’t be nifty enough to join in with the BFD con community, I always love to go to SF!
Cheers!
Yes! I would be interested. I live in SF and was just thinking the other day how it would be great to have some event to meet people here.
April 2008 works perfectly for me! Can we start squeeing now?
I’d love to, not sure if I can.
But this would be a great excuse for a trip to SF.
Squee!
I’m absolutley in! I’m in SF, so anytime is fine for me. We could do a clothing swap!!!
Count me in , too! Although I’m a long time lurker, I’d love to get together with everyone. I’m in Hawaii, so getting to SF is pretty easy-and I LOVE the idea of a clothing swap!
I don’t know which corner to head to! I’ll totally join in with the handmade jewellery, but I want the tai ch’i and brownies too…
They say it’s the same at every con. All the activities you want to do clash with each other. Such is life!
ooooh! that would be awesome. Too bad I won’t have time off from work until next year, and that getting a visa to the US takes forever. But I would got to the second edition.
