My tagline is actually “because infancy is the only time in life when chubby is cute!” This is actually meant to be taken with a bit of sarcasm.

We are a group of folks who need to get healthy. We need to shed some weight, learn healthier eating habits and exercise regularly. Nothing extreme or outrageous. No starvation. Just moderation and doing things the old fashioned way.

We are NOT about becoming society’s definition of ’skinny’…although we joke about it. We only care about being at a weight that we can be healthy and comfortably maintain and set good examples for our families.

Oh…by the way…I’d kill to be as “chubby” as Mandy Moore. She is so dang cute. The full cheeks is the only reason people EVER try to label her as chubby. She has a lovely figure and it’s a shame that it’s not more of the “norm” in Hollywood. Stupid Follywood!

1) People not examining their own beliefs and prejudices like you mentioned… it definitely is kind of hypocritical to cheerlead criticism of Posh’s body and not Kelly Clarkson’s, or whatever–we’re still judging women’s bodies in some kind of “hot or not” referendum, which seems counterproductive.

However, there is also:

2) The fact that calling somebody skinny is not as insulting as calling them fat. Honestly and unfortunately, I bet Posh counts every “needs to eat a sandwich” comment as a victory.

3) Posh really appears to be very underweight whereas obviously, the celebrity women who get slammed for being “fat” are generally nowhere near overweight. This is still no reason to judge women’s bodies, but it probably factors in.

I don’t really see how “is Mandy Moore chubby or hot” could have been 100% a joke though. If it was, I guess I don’t really “get” it because it doesn’t seem funny.

Ken, I don’t think you meant it this way (what with the ‘chubby’ wording) but I wanted to mention again that the Dove women weren’t actually chubby, they just looked it next to the very thin women we usually see in advertising. Weren’t they all of “normal,” “healthy” weight by BMI (quotes because of course who am I to say what’s actually normal or healthy for anyone)? Which made two of the paths that the discussion took (“Yay for fat ladies in advertising!” and “Boo, I shouldn’t have to look at fat chicks on a billboard!”) sort of beside-the-point and depressing.

Ah, here you go: same blog, same dumb crap. Mo is always on the job.

To the previous point about “Because I Said So” (a movie so horrible it couldn’t be redeemed by Mandy’s hotness), it reminds me of that movie “Sirens” back in the 90s, which featured a nekkid Elle McPhereson. And not just a nekkid McPhereson, but one who’d gained 25 pounds for the role and went from being an attractive but slightly freakish model sort to being a super-smoking hot woman with curves and such.

Just saying.

On another note, one of the few criticisms of the Dove campaign from last year went something like, “Sure, those women are chubby, but Dove didn’t pick ‘normal’ women, they went out and found the hottest ‘chubby’ women they could find.” (Thus proving that the terms hot and chubby are not mutually exclusive)
