Reign Of Awesomness Just Gets Awesomer
Rosie O’Donnell loves Beth Ditto too! She’s put up a slideshow tribute, with photos taken at the True Colors tour concert this weekend. And here’s a quote from Rosie’s question-and-answer page from today:
Carolyn writes:
i hate being fat. today, more than normal, i hate being fat.Ro replies:
honey go buy the gossip
BETH DITTO WILL FREE U
According to the New York Times review of the concert:
For vocal incandescence, though, [the Dresden Dolls] couldn’t top Beth Ditto, whose band the Gossip delivered the night’s most unpolished and gripping performance. Backed by the guitarist Brace Paine and the drummer Hannah Blilie, Ms. Ditto unleashed a bluesy yowl that sounded even bigger than the room. Their better tunes — like a heat-blasted disco-punk closer, “Standing in the Way of Control” — felt stranded between styles, and better for it.
Thanks to Eliza for sending this along!

You have to go to http://www.gossipyouth.co.uk/index1.html and click on “News” and then click on play (at the bottom) to see how fantastic she is during a live show. :o)
Oh please Rosie, get on the fat lib bandwagon. Oh how I wish more celebrities would risk it.
well, not to be a negative bitch, but why am I not surprised the NYT blurb worked in that “Ms. Ditto UNLEASHED a bluesy yowl that sounded even BIGGER than the room.”
To me, it was a not-so-veiled size reference. Maybe I’m wrong though.
Never was a Rosie fan but I appreciate Beth Ditto like rich girls love diamonds.
April, thanks for the link. I thought Beth Ditto was awesome based on her advice column, but was underwhelmed by the few clips of The Gossip that I had heard.
That, however, was awesome.
“her advice column”?? And where can this be found? Becky, you’re holding out on us!
It’s in the Guardian, and it rocks!
Here’s a recent one online:
What Would Beth Ditto Do?
To find the rest, I had the best luck searching guardian.co.uk for “What would Beth Ditto Do?”
I was at True Colors in DC, and Rosie definitely seemed to be jumping in on size acceptance, especially in the context of dissing Trump. I believe she said that she’s learned to love her entire body–all of it.
Ha…the funny thing is, I thought I had read about the WWBDD? column right here! Not holding out on purpose, I promise!
