Eating cake on the hood of this blog and waving

"Try Wearing A Corset"

May 9th, 2007

Many people envy Keira Knightley’s slim figure, despite rumors of an eating disorder. (Those rumors went into overdrive when she wore this dress on the red carpet.) But in this interview, she claims to be unhappy with her body and wishes her figure were a little fuller.

[P]hotos of her looking super-slim in a bikini from earlier this year were snapped after the “grueling” “Pirates of the Caribbean” shoot, which required her to film in “searing temperatures” while “wearing a wetsuit underneath a load of corsets, fighting with heavy weights in the water. Can you imagine a more advanced cardio workout than that done hour after hour?”

Still, says Keira, “When all that blew up, I felt terrible… I took it very seriously. I went to the doctor to be checked out and asked him what I could do to put on weight…I don’t want to have to go around eating crap and being really unhealthy in order for people to stop having a go at me”… She also admitted to coveting the slim but shapely (read: stacked) frames of Scarlett Johansson and Kate Winslet, saying yearningly, “That kind of decadent flesh is absolutely beautiful. How sexy is that on a woman?”

She even goes on to say that Beth Ditto–who is not Hollywood fat like Johansson and Winslet, but actually full figured–is “sexy” and has an “amazing body.” It is awesome that a Keira, a role model for young women who want to be thin, is saying such public, positive things about curvier women. I just wish she felt less insecure about her own body. Skinny girls deserve our love too!

We all struggle with some aspect of our weight, even if we are a size 0. I think it’s great that Kiera is showing the human side of her. It’s a side that celebrities often forget to show making them seem unreachable.

I am not lesbian but Beth Ditto is so darn lovely! Thanks for the share! I added the band to my myspace!! :o)

BTW — Just to let you ladies know, I sparkly love this blog! It’s one of the highlights of my day!! Keep up the good work!

This is a hard issue for me to grapple with. I really do think that, just as there are those who are larger, there are those who are naturally “underweight.” My mother was one of those as I was growing up. (I actually inherited by butt from her but didn’t know until she hit menopause and gained some weight!)

It is good that she is interested in making sure that she is healthy though….I have to admit that I find the more curvier women more attractive, in general.

This interview with her actually impressed me a great deal. The picture in that dress – and there are other, more revealing pictures as well from that event – really kind of put me off because, aesthetically, they seemed just the thing for thinspiration. Also, Knightley’s at-the-time-seemingly canned responses denying an eating disorder just made the whole thing seem fishy. This is a mature and thoughtful response from her and I find it very interesting.

Speaking of Beth and The Gossip, her outfits are great in the video for “Jealous Girls”:

You would think being able to be next to such sexy men, as Johnny Depp, and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, would make her feel very satisfied with herself. I mean, come on, how can you not feel like the most beautiful girl in the world with those guys?

    Jackie:
Maybe if you’re not actually romantically involved with those guys….

And those sexy men never really get criticized for their weight, do they? They’re just hot sexy men….(and they really are)

But really..what does running around with hot boys have to do with feeling better about yourself?
